State and local authorities need new revenue sources, and taxpayers need relief from the property tax. Why not create tax cuts that are linked to achieving these goals? Simply move …

Both Governor Patrick and House Speaker DiMasi seem to feel that the revenues issue and property tax solution are a Massachusetts problem. This is clearly not the case, as many other states are in the same dilemma. A timely report by The Rockefeller Institute of Government, State Revenue Report March 2008, #71 shows this clearly. We need a larger perspective to solve our budget woes.

Letter to Governor Patrick , Speaker DiMasi 04-30-2008

I continue to speak out for a larger perspective on addressing the need for more state revenues and lessening the impact of the property tax. I have recently filed a company, Gemand Consulting LLC and I am developing a website. The company is charitable in nature, and seeks to help local and state authorities address the lack of revenues and the crunch of increasing property taxes. In short, we need to have a larger share of our tax dollars spent at the state and local levels. I provide a plan to realize this. My point continues to be that the issues need to be addressed beyond the borders of Massachusetts – many states face the same issues we do. I hope you’ll take the time to consider the thoughts of a lowly taxpayer. Higher cigarette taxes or new casinos do not seem to be the long-term solution to our dilemmas. The presidential candidates all have plans to stimulate the economy, but none of them address the current imbalance between state and federal spending levels. We can be proactive and time proposals for the federal election cycle.
